Aadya G.
There are many pros and cons of having a loved one in a nursing home. Many people would like to argue that nursing homes are restrictive and not beneficial for senior citizens. Others will say that nursing homes are highly effective in their or their loved ones' care. Either way, here are some pros and cons of having a loved one in a nursing home.
Pros:
There is a large variety of nursing homes across the US., as well as small communities. The goal many people have for finding a nursing home is finding one that works for their senior loved one. According to the Northland Rehabilitation And HealthCare Center, there are five main types of communities of nursing homes that are of interest to people.
Skilled Nursing Community.
Assisted Living Community.
Senior Living Community.
Memory Care Community.
Continuing Care Retirement Community.
As we dig deeper into what these communities specialize in, we see that the variety of communities can cover pretty much any need that a senior citizen might need to be cared for. This variety in communities is incredible as it can take care of seniors that need care after hospitalization to seniors that just need a place to live, along with the additional living support.
Nursing homes are able to help the elderly in many different ways, especially if they are really struggling and need a lot of specialized attention. Nursing homes can also help many young adults, who volunteer in these homes, build connections with the old as well as teach them how to care for others on a deeper level. These are the positive impacts nursing homes can have on the young and old.
Cons:
Along with all of the support nursing homes provide, the prices of these homes are something many people will be looking for. The cost of staying in a nursing home per month ranges from $ 8,000-9,3000 depending on the type of room the senior stays in. Other factors in price will depend on care and health care. Although nursing homes are very beneficial for many of the elderly and their care, many people will argue that the prices are quite expensive if you include the health care and care fees.
There are so many other alternatives for living in a nursing home, such as Home Care where the senior can get the care they need from the comfort of their own home. Other options include assisted living where the seniors are able to get a little more privacy and are able to live in a community, while getting the assistance and care they need.
Many nursing homes are expensive, and since there are many alternatives to having a loved one in a nursing home this brings up the question of if nursing homes are really necessary for a senior citizen going into their old age. Since there are many factors going into these pros and cons, in the end it truly depends on what's best for the senior and what they are most comfortable with.
